Fingerlakes Trail

Hiking, backpacking and camping are the essence of scouting outdoor activities, there are great hikes, wonderful scenery and wonderful spots to camp and rest. The trail runs 562.9 miles from the Alleghany State Park on the NY/PA border to Long Path in the Catskill Forest Preserve. This section of the trail is also within the corridor for the North Country National Scenic Trail which is to stretch from New York to North Dakota. Nature

Getting into the woods and trails is a great way to see the diversity of wildlife and plants in the area, snakes and salamanders, raptors, turtles, beaver, turkeys, maybe even a bear. Visit the nationally accredited bird sanctuary at Montezuma where over 315 species have been identified since it was established in 1937. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is another great resource and fun and education combine at Cayuga Nature Center.
